The Know-Nothing Party is significant because their members strongly opposed immigrants along with followers of the Catholic Church. These immigrants included mostly Blacks, Native Americans, and Catholics. They were short-lived and had success for a very limited amount of time. This was important to sectionalism because it could have possibly created more division within the country. Without immigration, the country lacks what it needs to thrive.
