After the terrorist attacks on the US, relations between the US and Iran tightened through the American war on terror. This was due to a shared hatred for the Taliban and Saddam Hussein. Thus, Iran used its considerable influence to help the US depose the Taliban and install a pro-American government in Baghdad.
