The Confederates pushed North at met the Union with the Battle of Antietam. It was the bloodiest single-day of the war. It was mostly a draw with so many dead, however it showed how the North was still powerful and Robert E. Lee retreated. It became a springboard for a North Emancipation Proclamation.
