A transistor radio is a small portable radio receiver that uses transistor-based circuitory. Texas Instruments' Regency TR -1 is the first commercial radio. This radio could fit in a pocket, weighed half a pound and was powered by a single compact 9v battery

Some of us have heard and seen this type of radio device since it can be seen on retro poster designs.
