11 Okt 1962 Jahr - Cuban Missile Crisis
Beschreibung:
The Cuban Missile Crisis was a 13-day confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union. It began when America discovered that there were Soviet ballistic missiles deployed within Cuba. These missiles were agreed to by Fidel Castro and Khrushchev as a response to the presence of American missiles in Italy and Turkey, as well as America's attempts to invade Cuba. After days of tense negotiations, it was agreed that the weapons would be dismantled in Cuba in exchange for a declaration that the U.S. dismantle its weapons in Turkey, as well as announce that they will not invade Cuba again. This is widely considered the closest the Cold War had ever come to escalating to nuclear war.
