Hilary Clinton spent an astonishing $900m for her unsuccessful campaign in 2016, almost double what Donald Trump spent. In fact, Trump was his campaigns biggest donor, with the rest mostly coming from small donors, while Clinton relied heavily on larger contributions from millionaires.

This colossal spending is around ten times the amount that she would have been allowed to spend if she had taken public funding.
