-He was especially interested in the nature of radiation from hot materials. In 1901 he devised a theory that perfectly described the experimental evidence, but part of it was a radical new idea: energy did not flow in a steady continuum, but was delivered in discrete packets Planck later called quanta.. That explained why, for example, a hot iron poker glows distinctly red and white. Planck, a conservative man, was not trying to revolutionize physics at all, just to explain the particular phenomenon he was studying.
-The experiment Max Planck performed to establish his theory of energy radiation in packets called quanta consisted of a set of oscillators and spectroscope to measure the wavelength. A body is subjected to thermal radiation at a fixed frequency. The body emitted the radiations which are received by the harmonic oscillators and is measured by the spectroscope. It was found that the vibrations of the oscillator is of fixed frequency and not in random frequencies. With the experimental results he had to assume that each oscillator produced an integer number of units of energy at its single characteristic frequency.
