After four and a half months of training near Cairo, the Australians departed by ship for the Gallipoli peninsula, along with troops from New Zealand, Britain, and France. Aiming to knock Turkey out of the war and promising to transform it, the Gallipoli Campaign was eventually unsuccesful.
