9 Jan 1973 Jahr - Durban Coronation Strike

Beschreibung:

Fordi economic boom også mere urban workers og derfor større behov for unions
CO SA WU - lasting
FO SA TU - ´81 - Targeted black migrant workers
NUT - 73

Lasting for two days
During the 1960´s, African trade unionism was severely weakened
25 January strikes in mills, over 6000 African workers striked
Store grupper hvor man kommer sammen over felles grievances er ideelt for fostering and thriving of black consciousness
Soon spread - unrest throughout the country and the press had given up attempts to report each strike
In February, the strike grew - garbage workers, cleaning and electricity services, road and drain work - eventually 30 000 workers were on strike
The strikes hastened the rebirth of African unions and jolted employers and the government into changes which would help the new organizations survive and grow
Attracted attention outside the country
