1 Jan 1842 Jahr - Abelard Guthrie

Beschreibung:

Abelard Guthrie (1814-1873) is a key figure in Wyandotte County history in terms of the nation’s slave debate. He was 157 lbs. with blue eyes, auburn hair, rugged strong, and mobile. He wore his hair long like the Natives but was of Scotch-Irish descent. He was appointed by President John Tyler as Register of U.S. Land Office in Upper Sandusky, Ohio in 1842. After serving a year his appointment was rejected for political reasons. In Ohio he fell in love with a Wyandot Tribal member of the Big Turtle Clan, Nancy Quindaro Brown. Their marriage would not have been approved by her father in Ohio but in Kansas they were married in 1844. The abolitionist tenor of the Wyandot Tribe and settlers arriving in the area like Walker, Armstrong and Guthrie forced repeal of the Missouri Compromise.
