10 Mai 1963 Jahr - Birmingham Protests/Bull Connor Ends

Beschreibung:

The Birmingham Protests were a string of protests performed by the SCLC, led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In the protest, Mr. King was arrested and at first denied a phone call to his wife, who had just had their fourth child. After reaching out to the Kennedy Administration, Mr. King was allowed his phone call and also given bail, which allowed him to get out of the jail on April 20. In his cell, Mr. King wrote his infamous Letter from Birmingham Jail. A major cause of the protests was that Birmingham was one of the most segregated cities in the US, and many of its public facilities were still segregated. A major effect would be the desegregation of the public places across US.
