2 Jul 1964 Jahr - Civil Rights Act of 1964

Beschreibung:

The Civil Rights Act outlaws discrimination based on religion, race, sexuality, or nationality and it addresses voting registration discrimination. It was proposed by JFK, before he was assassinated, and was signed into law by Lyndon B. Johnson. Despite strong opposition, a coalition of Northern Democrats, Senate leadership, and Republicans made the passage of the bill possible. One major cause of this act was Brown v. Board of Ed as it was a Court decision that really started the civil rights movement as it deemed segregation in schools unconstitutional. One of the many effects of this act was the equal opportunities that were now available for African Americans and other minorities. Also, this act was renewed multiple times which added new provisions to the anti-discrimination laws.
