28 Aug 1963 Jahr - March on Washington
Beschreibung:
Over 250,000 people gathered at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. to advocate for equality in jobs and freedom. Many influential civil rights groups attended, such as SCLC, NAACP, and SNCC, and leaders gave speeches. Perhaps the most famous from that day was Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech. The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom was mainly conducted to help gain additional support for the Civil Rights Act that the Kennedy Administration was trying to pass through Congress. As a result, there became a new national awareness of the problems that the African-American community faced, and is often credited with helping the Civil Rights Act pass.
