24 Okt 79 Jahr - Mt. Vesuvius erupts and destroys Pompeii. The dust from the eruption buried Pompeii under a thick carpet of ash, killing 2,000 people. Pompeii had some of Rome's most distinguished citizens before the city was destroyed.
