This US Supreme Court case upheld busing as permissible for integrating schools. The Swanns sued the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school to allow their son to attend an elementary school with the help of the NAACP. Eventually busing was used to help integrate the schools. The cause of this case was the lack of significant progress for desegregation of schools. The effect of the case was the increased use of busing for integration; however, busing also became criticized.
