1. The Supreme Court ruled that the segregation of public education based solely on race violates the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment.
2. African American students who had been denied admission appealed the case, and the Warren Court decided it.
3. The case was a consolidation of cases in Kansas, South Carolina, Virginia, Delaware, Washington DC, but the appellee was the Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas.
4. One major cause of the case was the denial of admittance to public schools based on laws created under Plessy v. Ferguson, which held that the separate but equal doctrine was legal.
5. One major effect of the case was that the beginning of the desegregation of public schools. However, this also led to white flight, or the movement of white people from racially mixed neighborhoods to those with little to no diversity.
