The Nintedo 3DS was the first in the new line of Nintendo handheld consoles. the major difference between the 3DS and the DSI is that 3ds is capable of projecting stereoscopic 3D effects without the use of 3D glasses making it one of the first 3D capable consoles that didn't need additional accessories. The console, being the succeeser of the DS family, was fully backward compatible to the DS family including the DSi exclusive games. In it's first two years of its release it became Nintendo's most successful handheld console. However, the first 5 months of the consoles sales was disappointing but the company revived the console by dropping the price of the console significantly by almost £60 and offered users that paid the original price ten free Nintendo Entertainment System games and ten free Game Boy Advance games from the Nintendo eShop. The system had new features like StreetPass and SpotPass tag modes which are powered by the Nintendo Network, Augmented Reality with the use of the 3DS' 3D camera and Virtual Console which let players download and play game that were originally released on older video game systems. There was also an online distribution store called Nintendo eShop, Miiverse which is a social networking service, where the player uses there Mii, an Internet Browser. streaming services like Netflix, Hulu Plus and YouTube. The system also had Nintendo Video, Letter Box which was a messaging application and Mii Maker where the player can make a Mii which is a avatar that is to made to reflect the users apparance in the form of a Mii. The biggest titles in the 3DS' lifespan so far are Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Pokémon Sun and Moon and the 2nd games called Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Fire Emblem Awakening and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds to name a few. They were also Mario games like Mario Kart 7, New Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario 3D Land that utilised the consoles 3D capabilities. The Nintendo 3DS had three accessories which are the Circle Pad Pro which can attach to the 3DS and adds two digital triggers, being ZR/ZL, and a second circle pad. There was a second model of the Circle Pad Pro for the Nintendo 3DS XL called the Circle Pad Pro XL. The second peripheral is the Nintendo 3DS Stand which came exclusively with the retail copy of Kid Icarus: Uprising and was designed the make this specific game and others with similar controls easier to play for users that may find it tasking to hold the console with one had whiles using the styles on the touch screen for longer periods than in usual games. The last accessory was the NFC Reader that was made for the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL, and Nintendo 2DS and released alongside Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer. It allowed the player to scan NFC's like Amiibo's. The New Nintendo 3DS comes with an NFC reader built-in tot he console.
