The federal government authorized the construction of this federally funded road. Built from Cumberland, Maryland to the Ohio river. This is significant because it marks the first time when the government ever funded a road like this. Roads are extremely important because before many areas were isolated because they didnt have many navigable rivers, therefore the road opens these areas to the vast economy.
