The Embargo Act of 1807 closed off trade with all other countries. It was meant to protect American ships from issues coming from other countries, such as the British who were, at the time, impressing American sailors into their navy. However, the event had several side effects. America itself developed a more independent attitude, and many cultures started to develop around manufacturing, since America was dependent in itself to create its own prducts
