The Non-Intercourse Act was passed by the Jefferson administration in March of 1809, and replaced the current embargo that was in place. This limited trade with Britain and France only, and infuriated them as superpowers. This suttle anger eventually built up years later and ended up in the War of 1812. However, this had a large effect on work and exchange in America. The previous embargo set by Jefferson reaked havoc on the economy, and this new Act helped to revive it by increasing trade with the Netherlands and Spain.
