British Mercantilism and the American colonies were intertwined from the very conceiving of the idea of an American colony. Mercantilism was bad for the colonists which is why they eventually left the British empire and declared independence. In mercantilism they were supposed to have absolute loyalty to the mother country and give Britain all of their trade.
