Shari Arison wants Yoram Turbowicz on the board of directors of Bank Hapoalim (TASE: POLI) to replace Iris Dror. His appointment will be submitted to the Bank of Israel Banking Supervision Department for approval as one of Arison's representatives on the board.

By nominating Turbowicz, Arison is challenging the Bank of Israel. In private discussions, Arison said that she was very angry at Supervisor of Banks Rony Hizkiyahu for refusing to consider Turbowicz as a candidate for chairman of Bank Hapoalim to succeed Dan Dankner. Yair Seroussi has been picked for that position.

Arison Holdings Ltd. spokeswoman Michal Gurwitz said, "No comment".

However, sources close to the company confirmed that the matter was "on the agenda".

Turbowicz, who is in Russia at the moment, could not be reached.

Shari Arison believes that Hizkiyahu rejected Turbowicz for the position of Bank Hapoalim chairman because Turbowicz supports her. In the wake of the Bank of Israel's critical report on Bank Hapoalim over the resignation of former CEO Zvi Ziv and his replacement by Zion Keinan, Turbowicz wrote an opinion supporting the position of Bank Hapoalim's board that there was no need to set up a search committee for a new CEO.

Turbowicz, now a private businessman, is a former director general of the Antitrust Authority, and was chief of staff of former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. He was once mentioned as a candidate for chairman of Azorim Investment, Development and Construction Ltd. (TASE: AZRM), controlled by Shaya Boymelgreen.
