The Bach Committee for choosing a new attorney general yesterday declared Yoram A. Turbowicz, Minister of Justice Joseph (Tomy) Lapid's candidate, ineligible for the job.
A majority of the Committee remained unconvinced that Turbowicz had the 10 years of legal experience required for the position, and the Committee so notified Lapid.

By cabinet decision, at the recommendation of the Shamgar committee, the attorney general must be eligible for appointment to the Supreme Court, a position which requires 10 years of legal experience.

Objections were voiced in the Committee that Turbowicz did not fulfill this condition, and a Committee majority supported this view.

Turbowicz has had a license to practice law for the past 16 years, during which he did legal work, except for four years in business.

Four candidates for attorney general have already withdrawn their candidacy.
