This device allows an input from a microphone to be put through to a synth and played like a synth. Development started in 1928 by Bell Labs. It was intended to be used for sending government conversations across long distances with harder to decrypt messages. It has been used by musicians in the late 1970s such as Kraftwerk to make music.
