On December 7th, 1941, the Japanese had attacked one of the U.S. military bases over in Pearl Harbor.

The United States responded as a military intervention by dropping nuclear bombs on two cities in Japan: Nagasaki, Hiroshima. President Roosevelt asked Congress to declare war and they responded quickly.
