1 Aug 1964 Jahr - U.S. enters fight with Vietnam

Beschreibung:

In August of 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson notified Congress that some North Vietnamese patrol boats had attacked two U.S. destroyers in the Gulf of Tonkin. In turn, Congress ordered the President to send U.S. troops to Vietnam to fight. After 4 or so years of fighting, the U.S. began to initiate bombings on North Vietnam. The U.S. entering the war is obviously significant to the rest the conflict because Vietnam, the Soviet Union and the United States are now all involved. Additionally, the unknown territory and the rise of the Vietcong weakened the U.S. forces in Vietnam. The U.S. entering the fight with Vietnam is a red event because even though the United States essentially had the most powerful army in the world and made a “threat” entering the conflict, they faced many difficulties such as the popularized Vietcong and fighting on unfamiliar land which eventually forced them to draw back and retreat.
