The AIDS Epidemic hit very hard on the 80's as it was a time of freedom where many young people did whatever they felt. The impact was AIDS, a sexually transmitted disease that there is still no cure for. Forrest's wife, Jenny, was diagnoised with a disease, never specifically with AIDS, but throughout the movie they show her doing promiscuous activities leading up to her death.
