They started writing the Declaration of Independence on June 11 and finished it on July 4th 1776. They had a committee known today as "The Committee of Five". This consisted of John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Robert R. Livingston, and Roger Sherman. They came up with the draft for the Declaration of independence.
