1 Jan 1904 Jahr - Northern Securities Case Decided
Beschreibung:
Soon after Theodore Roosevelt was elected president, his administration filed a law suit against the Northern Securities Company, a trust comprised of several northwestern railroads that strangled any competition. Three years after it is filed, the trust was broken, and Roosevelt earned the nickname "Trust Buster". This represents the beginning of TR's use of executive power against 44 other trusts, thereby expanding the powers of the presidency. (Effect of event: precedent set for future presidents: busting trusts that strangle compeitition) (Change: first in a long line of uses of executive power against trusts and monopolies)
