Jefferson purchased a massive amount of territory in North America from Napoleon Bonaparte of France. For just $10 million, the US more than doubled its size by area. This would eventually lead to some tensions with Native Americans who lived on the newly acquired land, but it would also lead to large amounts of internal westward migration and the Manifest Destiny.
