1 Jan 1929 Jahr - Hoover and the Great Depression
Beschreibung:
Hoover’s response to the stock market crisis of 1929 was largely seen as inadequate. He asserted that businesses and the people should take it upon themselves to bring back economic prosperity, not the federal government. He weakened the people’s respect for the presidency, and people began to label new shantytowns that arose as a result of the Depression “Hoovervilles”. Hoover’s decline in popularity helped Franklin D. Roosevelt get elected in 1932.
