-In the spring of 1989 thousands of pro-democracy, demonstrators occupied Tiananmen Square, Bejing’s central gathering place.
-They wanted an end to corruption in the ruling party, a greater say in government, and better conditions in the universities.
-Thousands of students staged a hunger stike and ignored government orders for them to leave.
-Chinese leaders took action, and in early June tanks and armed troops bean to move towards Tiananmen Square.
-They shot at people they saw on the streets.
-There were more than hundreds of protesters that were killed and thousands of them wonded.
-Tiananmen Square Massacre was the name of this incident.
-Tourists would not visit because of the action of te government when they stopped or cut back loans in china.
-China needed a new source of income to replace money from other counties.
-Jiang Zemin, Chinas presedent after 1993 proposed new plan. In 1997 chinese governmnt gave up control of thousands of tate owned bussinesses that were losing money.
-The new provate owners had to find a new way to make money.
-This plan gave china some needed income.
-Millions of people were living in poverty.
