1 Jun 1948 Jahr - Berlin Airlift
Beschreibung:
After WWII, Berlin was divided into two zones, East and West Berlin (Soviet and Allied control respectively). Soviet Russia was concerned about an allied anti communist stronghold within their territory, and thus slowly began to cutoff West Berlin from the rest of the world. The U.S. knew that the people in West Berlin couldn't be evacuated or Russian influence would quickly spread across the wall, and so decided to begin a program to drop supplies over West Berlin by cargo plane. Food and living supplies were dropped daily for nearly a year, when the Soviet government reopened roads and railways so food could be brought in over land.
