Not a mosque. Was made by the caliph Abd-Al Malik of the Umayyad dynasty as a religious focal point for his followers. In the center of the dome there is a large rock where Abraham was believed to have attempted to sacrifice his son Ismail and where it is believed that Muhammad went on a journey through heaven. Mosaics depict the kingdom of Sasanian, a major civilization. Also symbolizes Islam’s superiority over Christianity by raising the structure of the dome. Has a very old important verse in the Qu’Ran. Made out of stone masonry with wooden roof decorated with glazed ceramic tiles, mosaics and gilt and aluminum and a bronze dome. Found in Jerusalem, Israel.
