Bamiya was in an important location along the silk road because a lot of people went through it. Buddhism was a mobile religion as there were no places of worship. The feet were carved on the ground which allowed buddhist followers to circumambulate around the feet of the Buddha, circumambulating is to walk around a stupa or buddha to worship it. The Buddha was made of separate pieces then welded together. Iconoclasm is destroying something for political reasons. The Bamiyan Buddhas were destroyed by the Taliban in 2001. Back in the day the Buddha was colored and it was made of a lot of things. (brass, wood, copper jewels?, and stucco) Made out of cut rock with plaster and polychrome paint in Bamiyan, Afghanistan.
