1 Jan 1991 Jahr - Alesis released the first "affordable" digital multi-tracking recorder, ADAT.

Beschreibung:

1991: Alesis unveiled the ADAT, the first affordable digital multitrack recorder. Could be synchronized with 16 other units to record a total of 128 tracks. It was a taped based format. The ADAT had synchronization that had sample-accurate timing, so the synchronization was better than it had been on previous multi-tracking machines. However this machine wasn’t quite the god-sent digital recording gift that it seems, this machine was notorious for eating people’s tape when they were a ways into their recording, ruining all their hard work. The Heads in the machine can get dirty and this damages the tape, and if you play a damaged tape through a clean ADAT then that will damage the heads, and then this will lead to the next tape becoming damaged.
