Beschreibung:

De divina proportione (On the Divine Proportion) is a book on mathematics written by Luca Pacioli and illustrated by Leonardo da Vinci. Its subject was mathematical proportions (the title refers to the golden ratio) and their applications to geometry, visual art through perspective, and architecture. The clarity of the written material and Leonardo's excellent diagrams helped the book to achieve an impact beyond mathematical circles, popularizing contemporary geometric concepts and images. Leonardo's drawings are probably the first illustrations of skeletonic solids which allowed an easy distinction between front and back. Pacioli believed “Without mathematics there is no art.”Pacioli wrote about his book: “A work necessary for all the clear-sighted and inquiring human minds, in which everyone who loves to study philosophy, perspective, painting, sculpture, architecture, music and other mathematical disciplines will find a very delicate, subtle and admirable teaching and will delight in diverse questions touching on a very secret science.”Kenneth Clark, author of “Civilisation” observed: “This union of art and mathematics is far from our own way of thinking, but it was fundamental to the Renaissance.”
