Castro was imprisoned on a Cuban island and ,upon his release, returned to Havana to speak more of peaceful revolution but this and an increase in violent demonstrations and bombings led to a crackdown by Batista.
He fled to Mexico where he plotted his movement's (now the 26th of July Movement) return to Cuba.
