The Origin of the Species was written by Charles Darwin and was published in the year of 1859. The book argued that all living species had evolved over thousands of years in a contest for survival. Species that adapted and were able to flourish survived, and hence the slogan “Survival of the fittest” arose. The biggest problem with this was that the book outlined the belief that since certain races were able to flourish more, they were scientifically superior, leading to scientific racism in the future.
