After attempted reform prior to 1910, the Mexican revolution began around 1910. It was a bloody and brutal civil war that broke out when middle-class Mexicans joined the peasants in an attempt to evict and remove the strong dictator of the time, Porfirio Diaz. This was mostly triggered by the fact that 95% of peasants did not have land, and were increasingly radical due to the fact that they were denied land. The Mexican revolution ended after the new constitution regarding reform was written in 1917, but there were still internal conflicts into the 1920s.
