The Indian National Congress was founded in 1885 and was by far the most important thing regarding any sort of Indian reform. It was a British approved forum that allowed wealthy Indians to communicate views on public health, and things like poverty, the transfer of wealth, trade and tariff policies, and other such subjects. This, in turn, led to nationalistic movements by the Indian people, and even eventually the push for independence.
