A small group of people met in Shanghai and founded the Chinese Communist party. They were inspired by Lenin and Marx in the Russian revolution. They hoped to spread communism in China. They worked with the Kuomintang to defeat the warlords. When the Nationalist party grew weak, the Communist party grew stronger. Chiang started executing communists, but failed to eliminate them. The communist party bribed peasants in China with help, if they joined the Red Army. They tried to help the peasants, and doing so, many joined the communist party.
