3 St. 6 Min, 30 Okt 1600 Jahr v. Chr. - Beginning of the Shang Dynasty

Beschreibung:

The Shang Dynasty, which lasted from 1600-1000 BCE was the second dynasty of China. The Shang dynasty succeeded the Xia Dynasty after Tang overthrew the previous emperor, Jie. Since many historians are unsure whether the Xia Dynasty really existed (or whether it was mythology), the Shang Dynasty may have actually been the first in China. During the Shang dynasty, many cultural advances such as advanced bronze casting, the solar calendar, new religious rituals, and writing were developed. Tang, the first king, instantly began helping his citizens much differently than emperors before and after him. He created a stable government, which lasted for 600 years. During the Shang Dynasty, ancestor worship was created and popularized. Taoism is also thought to have been created during this time. Tao was a Chinese monk who, very similar to the Buddha, gained enlightenment and then proceeded to spread his teachings. The solar calendar was created during this time period to help farmers plant their crops. This was created by a man named Wan-Nien, who measured time over a one-year period by measuring the shadows throughout a day using a sun-dial and a water clock. He discovered and documented the two solstices and equinoxes in the year. He then proceeded to create the Wan-lien-li or the "perpetual calendar". Writing developed in China through the use of oracle bones. Oracle bones were shells of turtles or bones of animals which were used in divination. If a person wanted to know their future, they would go to a fortune teller who would carve a question on a bone or shell. After the decline of the Shang dynasty, it was replaced by the Zhou Dynasty, which lasted from 1046-226 BCE.
