Description: Late winter during 3 year long civil war, Richmond Virginia was stranded without functioning trade routes-left to starve. Southerners weren't in a good situation as union troops took control over coastal trade ports to tighten grasp on the Confederacy (tactic of North to win the war). Women came together to riot against the rising food prices, governor Letcher didn’t address the issue when presented to him. So women took physical action stealing jewelry, food, etc. When actions caught Letcher attention his actions benefitted in no way still.
