During the war, women temporarily took on new roles in factories and offices as men left to serve in the wartime Army. Suffragists demanded that the nation thank these women for their wartime contributions by giving them the right to vote. This amendment ended a decades-long campaign to secure voting rights for women (gave women the right to vote).
