On this day, the union of the kingdoms of Norway and Sweden (where Sweden was the dominant party) formally ended, reinstating an independent Swedish state. Unlike Norway, Sweden has remained steadfastly neutral in its foreign affairs, and has never been occupied by another country. It holds the world record for peace, as it's been at peace for 206 years if you include its time as part of the Swedish-Norwegian Union.
