Despite the great conversion among the Lamanites, the wickedness of the Nephites continued to increase. The Gadianton Robbers had spread their influence and now they struck out against the government. Cezoram, the good man that had replaced Nephi as Chief Judge, was murdered as he sat on the Judgment seat.

It appears that it was never revealed who committed this murder. We are told only that it was done by an unknown hand, and that it was done through the wickedness of the Gadianton Robbers.
