On this day, Mongolia declared independence from China following the collapse of the Qing Dynasty. It struggled in a war for independence for over a decade, and ultimately succeeded with the aid of the Soviet Union. While totally autonomous, Mongolia would be strongly influenced by the Soviets for much of the 20th century.
