1 Jan 1542 Jahr - Belladonna / Deadly Nightshade
Beschreibung:
In use far before the Middle Ages, Belladonna is the poster-boy for the entire nightshade family, in spite of commonplace things like eggplants, tomatoes, potatoes, and peppers. In history, nightshade tinctures were used in order to dilate the pupils of women’s eyes, so they’d look prettier, but with the side effect of visual distortions, inability to focus on close objects, increased heart rate, and risk of blindness. Just as well, nightshade poisoning, from consuming the plant’s raw material or things containing it, could also cause light sensitivity, tachycardia (high resting heart rate), lack of balance, staggering, headaches, rash, flushed cheeks/skin, dry, sore mouth and throat, slurring, urinary retention, constipation, confusion, hallucination, convulsions, and delirium. Long-term, one can develop anti-cholinergic syndrome, which will result in a retention of these symptoms for substantially longer periods of time as the body has to undo damage by the alkaloids. Memory and learning deficits can also occur in consumers. As such, usage is not at all common anymore, and both unpredictable and unpleasant in effects.
