The first voyage of Christopher Columbus began in August 1492 and landed in the Bahamas in October of 1492. The trip, although sponsored by Spain, was actually funded by Italian Bankers. Even though reaching the islands took only 2 months, the expedition led to many things. The most important was that it established links between the Eastern and Western hemispheres. (4.1, 4.2, 4.3)
